After saying this, let us tell you why we use only dedicated IP addresses for our clients sites. There has been a spirited debate over time as to what is better. Dedicated IP's or Virtual IP's (shared). The main reasons we believe in using dedicated IP addresses are:

1. A Dedicated IP Address Is Safer. Consider this: When you have many websites on one IP address, you run a risk if that IP address is flagged for spam, adult content or suffers some other strong penalty that extends to the whole IP address. Your website would inevitably suffer the consequences as well. THIS IS NOT A GOOD THING.

2. Configuration Errors Could Be An Issue. According to a statement made by Google's Craig Silverstein in 2003; "Actually, Google handles virtually hosted domains and their links just the same as domains on unique IP addresses. If your IP does virtual hosting correctly, you’ll never see a difference between the two cases. We do see a small percentage of IPs every month that misconfigure their virtual hosting, which might account for this persistent misperception - thanks for giving me a chance to dispel a myth!".

Now, based upon this statement, it would appear they have the same ranking potential. There is of course the chance that they could be misconfigured though, which could hurt you. If the technicians map the wrong hostnames (domains and subdomains) to the wrong websites, you may see someone else's website on yours. This is a small possibility, but a possibility none the less. Also, if the host goes down due to an act of God or other high maintenance reason, your site goes down too.

3. Speed Counts. There have been various discussions concerning the speed of which a website loads. By having your own dedicated IP address, rather than being one of hundreds, or even thousands, there is the fact that the search does not have to look for your individual domain name through the din around you. This speeds up your websites loading time. THIS IS A GOOD THING.
